An eyesore

Mdantsane - known as the Boxing Mecca of South Africa, home of many home grown boxing champions. Well, 8 years ago, money was made available to build a boxing gymnasium for the area as part of the Urban renewal programme. Construction began a year later but funds ran out and the project was handed over to BCM. All that was left to complete was paving and security fencing. Now the building is abandoned, vandalized, a haven for criminals and muggers. Well done, BCM, another loss in your losing streak.

new kid in town

Well, the school yard bullies have already started with the chirps and insults against the new kid in town. Amazing how they can be threatened by a single old lady in a funny hat.

marathon weekend

Typical Buffalo City! Close down the Tourism Office then allow the city to host 4 major sporting events - all on the same weekend! Rather than spread the load so accommodation and restaurant facilities can handle the load, there is no co-ordination so visitors and locals are all equally pissed off. Add some strong winds and high temperatures and people get hot under the collar.

provocative !

I don't often draw internationally based cartoons but a slow news day locally combined with the loony Kim Jong Un was too much to resist. Hope everyone else had a blast on Valentine's Day too.

squeezed dry

Amatola District Municipality has upped the tariffs for metered water customers by between 140 and 184 %. This is about 60% more than consumers pay in Cape Town or Johannesburg. What they don't tell anyone is that non revenue water (unmetered connections, communal standpipes and leaking infrastructure) accounts for between 65 and 85% of all the water they supply. To make matters worse, in the 2011/2012 annual report they admitted to a R 428 million uncollected debt, of which R 257 million was written off as bad debt. The actual revenue collection rate up to June last year was 37%. No wonder they want to squeeze the last drop from the paying consumers!

Tata to il Papa

His Grace steps down with grace. I wish some of our so-called political elders would follow his lead and give way gracefully. Wishful thinking I suppose.

bloody valentine

I am happy that my editors were behind me in allowing this one to be published. Words (or pictures) cannot really describe the tragedy that is playing out in this country. My message to government - fix the courts, strengthen the police and fight this terrible scourge.

professional foul

Don't believe it when they tell you that the ANC factions have disappeared. They're still playing the political game here in the Eastern Cape, scoring own goals all the way. Premier Noxolo Kiviet goes head to head with Local Govt MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane in some really dirty play.

big black hole

Buffalo City is not known as the pothole capital of the country for nothing. Here is financial proof. A 6 billion Rand backlog to fix our roads. Any funding just seems to disappear into this big black local government hole!

going up

Everything is going up apart from the Rand which has dropped to its lowest point in five years. Ouch !

Nepotism is all relative

Almost half the employees or their direct relatives of the EC Health Department do business with the said department. A sure fire recipe for fraud and corruption. An epidemic of corruption if you will. Even down to reports of kitchen staff at hospitals stripping the meat off cooked chicken in order to sell it while the patients are served the bones. This is the country that prides itself on the philosophy of Ubuntu. Yeah right.

Eggxactly !

That's what tends to happen when politicians are selective with the truth. Somehow the lady just seemed to protest too much.
