potentially explosive

So Zwelinzima Vavi is out of the fold of Cosatu. Now we wait and see what happens next, along with the government, the workers and most of us in South Africa.

Dropping the ball

Seems like nobody is willing to comment or take responsibility for the insistence on a quota of 'players of colour' that were included in the Cricket world cup semi final against NZ.  I say that players should be picked on merit, not least for the fact that it stigmatizes players like Philander who get the short end of the wicket.

Have you ever seen such a thing in your life ?

The story of Eskom's failures reduced to a nursery rhyme.  It's a case of the blind leading the blind and we certainly need someone sensible to come in and make some cuts - especially at board level. You can read her suggestions here : http://www.politicsweb.co.za/politicsweb/view/politicsweb/en/page71654?oid=1021389&sn=Detail&pid=71616

Spreading the wealth

Imagine what R 26 million would do for the poor of the region. School books, clinics, primary healthcare, libraries?  But no, in her infinite wisdom, MEC Majodina is going to spend the money on parties and celebrations, including Worker's day, Africa day and R3.7 million to celebrate Nelson Mandela "as a traditional leader".  A lovely opportunity for the comrades to eat, drink and be merry and pass on catering tenders to friends and family.

How the kleptocracy cleans up

The corruption and lies and stealing continues.  I've just been reading an article on how we're heading towards our very own fiscal cliff. This isn't helping, Mr. President.

All Rhodes lead to s#*@+

One would expect a fourth year student to have a more sophisticated attack on colonial symbols than to throw crap on it.  Strange how the UCT students revile Rhodes' statue but they don't refuse the Rhodes scholarship bursaries. Just saying.

in hot water ?

I love it - President 'I don't know'.  Why do people still vote for this idiot? I certainly don't know.

Ploughed under

This story concerns the ex MEC for agriculture and his wife, also an MEC, who pushed local government to go into a dodgy land deal after getting a R 270 000 kickback to pay a deposit on his house.  The pace of the SA justice system is such that, the other party in the deal is dead, the ex MEC is divorced from his wife and accomplice, and he has been diagnosed with a mental disorder. Consequently, the charges have been withdrawn and so the only one's being punished now are the tax payers!

Thugs and drugs

Gang rivalry in the township of Duncan Village is becoming a real problem, all related to drug pushing and other crime.  A harsh place to live and get yourself out of. As an outsider, I can only hope my comment has some relevence.

Follow the money

More taxpayer's money down the tubes as the kleptocracy grabs another tender and makes money at the expense of the rural poor.

hot air

So the president managed to duck and dive and evade answering questions about Nkandla by talking at length and not saying anything. All the while ignoring the speaker who was insisting that he sit down.  Pity they didn't call the "waiters" to escort him out!
